Pussy and Pearls

The Compulsions have returned with their new cd Been Through Hell. Rob and the boys have constructed a new mini masterpiece which pays tribute to the past as well as the present. This six song disc cracks opens with a soon to be classic called Rock-n-Roll Johnny, an answer to an old AC/DC tune. But unfortunately Johnny leaves the building to make way for an electric psychedelic mix on Nasty Bitch with nice tasty lead guitar work done by Brian Gabriel and howling lead vocals by Rob Carlye, the song really goes nowhere. The disc continues on with a reworked Compulsions classic entitled Jungle Disease, this track reflects more of a live feel with guest guitarist Chris Wei formally of Tijuana Bible. The mix of this disc is great with lots of special guests like Richard Fortus famed guitar player of Honky Toast. If you love old school Hard Rock like The Rolling Stones, Humble Pie, The Who, The Faces and AC/DC then this disc is worth a listen, and seeing them live is quite an experience.

As I move on in my continuing search for more Rock-n-Roll, the most dangerous band alive,  Nashville Pussy return with a vengeance. Their long awaited release From Hell To Texas recorded at Pedernales Studio in  Spicewood, Texas were Country music legend Willie Nelson did all of his classic albums.

The disc breaks open with a full throttle thrash fest called Speed Machine, which recalls their earlier punker sound. The title track From Hell To Texas continues in the same fashion, ready to send your balls ablazin'. Drunk Drivin' Man is a southern flavored beer soaked barn-stormer, although it's unlikely to win any awards with mothers against drunk drivers. The fourth track Lazy Jesus is a great Rock-n-Roll sacrilege with lip smacking Blues based harp. The rest of the album injects more pulsating and blistering guitars by Ruyter Suys and Blaine Cartwright. The music not only recaptures the sound of their past, but also in many ways revels a significant development in their approach, demonstrating that they are true masters of their craft.

The crowd was in full gear as the lights went down, and The Dirty Pearls took the stage for yet another sold out show at The Bowery Ballroom. The band opened their set with a crackling full on assault tune called Bruises and further continuing on with All eyes on you. As Tommy London hit the catwalk in the center of the stage singing, squealing and prowling, the music continued on.

The no nonsense lead guitars played by Ritchie White on SG Gibson and Johnny B on the Fender Stratocaster merging together creating their own harmony, signature sound.

The rhythm was solid as a rock as Marty E picked up on drums with Dougie’s bass guitar on Gimme Gimme. The sexy backup singers arrived and the sounds were more alive. The crowd proved that old school Hard Rock-n-Roll at it's finest can and will never die. The Dirty Pearls have established that with influences ranging between The Dictators, AC/DC and elements of Thin Lizzy. The night ended on an up note with the crowd receiving a lethal dose of metallic majesty from the encore New York city is a drug

Goodbye good riddance and you know the rest...
